Text by Sonia Dermience : She must be around 18. Her name is Casha. The baby, not yet walking, is eating crisps. In front of me in the train Warsaw-Vienne. The guy in front of me, Polish as well, started to speak right away as well about clubs next to Gare du nord in Brussels, where he works on construction sites… Sunny frisk November day, 7 hours train as a romantic old fashioned way of traveling. They left the cabin and came back. He is divorced with two kids, he showed me photos with his ex wife. He is going back to the village. His car is in Belgium, a black Audi i saw in photos with his tattoos on his breast, symbols of success and sexyness. He is cute. Young. You can feel cosyness in this cabin with them and one other girl who does not speak as she must feel ashamed of a possible closeness with unexpected encounters, random people. She speaks to give me wifi and i realize she just doesn’t want any contact with the others, who she must see as lower class. The young mother has a beautiful voice, elegant, dressed in black. The baby just made a mess with another pack of crisps that was next to my seat. He is sitting on the floor trying to eat them. Now strolling around with the mother who seems happy as much as the baby, both warm people. Looking through the window i think about contraception and abortion. The land is flat. Small trees. I type with one finger on my phone. Thinking about that photo i want to make of Jean-Pierre pissing on a car at night with the flash. A naked woman riding the bronze crocodile in Botanical garden would be too political maybe? Emeline could also just sit inside the car at night. A kind of Vogue magazine reportage flash night, colors, characters questioning belonging and possession of private spaces and people. This guy in front of me should be part of the shoot. He wears a green Adidas jacket with jeans perfect short hair shaped in the back. He just asked the name to the other girl i understood replied Sandra. She doesn’t want anything to do with a too young mother and a construction worker. The Guy just made a sign to Casha to go back to toilet but i don’t know if he mimicked blow job or cigarette. She puts lipstick on. He tries to sleep. The baby is learning English with the phone repeating ‘Hello, how are you?’ Then record her own voice repeat and laugh to finally switch to heavy techno. This pink pullover makes me look fat in association with that wool leather brown skirt. The grey leggings are ok with the boots and skirt, still the top ruins the ensemble. If i put lipstick they will think i want to have sex. Or that i am an old wicked lady. The baby is dressed in pink like my lipstick, that is very comforting, soft pink named rouge pure couture. I put it on and feel already so full of reassuring intimacy in this cosy warm cabin full of sun and beautiful people. I have to pee. I realize i am with the sexiest people of the train… Even if i ate lots of cakes in Warsaw and have my menstruation, i think about sex when i close my eyes. The guy is asleep. The baby as well. Sandra as well; can’t see Casha making photos of her pack of crisps. First stop: a city of houses and blocs, no one would choose to live here if you are not from here and still half of Polish population believe they have a problem with foreigners. Police in the train. Police is back. Two young guys.

Rinko Kawauchi dévoile une série de quarante photographies réalisées dans les environs de Kumamoto une ville du sud du Japon. L’originalité du projet réside dans le fait qu’elle ait demandé à des habitants de la région de lui révéler un endroit particulièrement important pour eux, un endroit de mémoire, chargé de souvenirs.

« The Future of Dry, (Le Futur du Sec) première exposition personnelle de Laura Porter à la galerie Escougnou-Cetraro, s’ouvre sur des images tirées d’une brochure distribuée à des sujets dans le cadre d’études scientifiques visant à quantifier leur consommation de graisse à partir de standards de mesure. Outre des figures schématiques numérotées, on y trouve notamment des représentations abstraites d’« amas » (mounds) de différentes tailles. Elle a choisi de reprendre ces figures et de les marier à d’autres quantifications, comme une pièce de monnaie-étalon permettant d’évaluer la taille réelle de plantes sur des photographies (Penny Perspective) ou un fauteuil divisé en boudins (Like Farming). » Valentin Lewandowski

In her previous series Parts and Drape, Eva Stenram digitally cut up existing images in order to examine the relationship between an image and its viewer. For her upcoming show at Amsterdam, she further explores her use of found images and what it means to be looking at them. Offcut consists of three works that all combine the photography with three-dimensional installation.

As the starting points of Paperwork and the Will of Capital, Taryn Simon drew inspiration from George Sinclair’s 19th century horticultural study – a book containing dried grass specimens that inspired Darwin’s theory of evolution – and historical photographs of the signings of political accords between leaders of the 44 countries present at the 1944 United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference, in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.

« Né un 2 juillet fait dialoguer deux générations, celle d’un groupe qui a évolué à travers l’explosion du cinéma hollywoodien et une plus jeune bande de plasticiens qui a connu la bombe internet. Malgré des différences générationnelles, entre 1972 et 1992, l’exposition met en exergue la déambulation. Un espace temps se crée à travers les œuvres, un retour en arrière ainsi qu’une projection dans un avenir chaotique et non certain. Tel un parcours du combattant, le visiteur dérive, se laisse porter et fait face au boom générationnel. » (Paumine Pavec). For Dysfunctional links, Nicolás Lamas presents a corpus of new works with multiple interpretations suggested by tenuous shifts. It may involve an unlikely rapprochement between two objects unrelated to each other (reference to Lautréamont’s well-known meeting) or an action enabling poetic flourishes, such as in the Parallel Worlds series, where pages from National Geographic magazine have been torn out by the artist, comparing two photos in an unprecedented rapprochement.

MOT International presents Ulay’s first solo exhibition in Brussels. Referencing his 1970s series Anagramatic Bodies, new photo collages feature German actresses Nina Hoss and Iris Berben, together with models Lily McMenamy and Stella Lucia, while works from the artist’s photographic archive cumulatively recount his nomadic, itinerant life over the past forty years. The exhibition includes rarely-presented projects produced during his career defining collaboration with Marina Abramović, such as the artist’s extensive personal documentation of 1988’s The Great Wall Walk in diaries, drawings and a pair of seven metre scrolls, in addition to photographs recording the artist’s time in the Central Australian Desert (1979) with members of the aboriginal Pintubi community.
