L’ÈRE VULGAIRE PASSERA

altblog – Slava MogutinIn 1792, revolutionary France establishes the Republican calendar and thereby puts an end to the subsequently called “ère vulgaire” (EV). In 1989, another Revolution eliminates Stalinism in Russia and East Germany. This is the beginning of a new era for the youth of Eastern Europe but also for the West where the awareness of an historic paradigm shift raises.
The exhibition “l’ère vulgaire passera” shows the work of four photographers who echo this major shift: Aleksandr Schumow, Andreas Fux, Slava Mogutin & Brian Kenny.
Guest curator : Patrik Schedler.

altblog – Nicolas Lamas - Partial ViewThe work of Nicolas Lamas is based on a process reflection about space, time, culture and science. Exploring different scientific fields such as astronomy or physics, Lamas formalizes his questioning using various media, playing on codes of monstration, comparing objects which seem a priori to be opposites, to elicit meaning and drama. The young Peruvian artist based in Belgium creates a world crammed with possibilities, creating permanent interactions, ellipses, attractions and repulsions, inversions between horizontality and verticality, incompatibilities between vacuum and matter, distortions of logic.

altblog – Jessica BackhausOnce Still and Forever takes us on time travels through the works of Jessica Backhaus. The title of her latest series veritably demands that we think about what has been, what is and what will remain in the future. Taking this title as a guiding principle when viewing the succession of Backhaus’s work series, the direction her oeuvre has taken since 2005 becomes clear.
