Celebrating the return of the Stedelijk Museum as the focal point of Amsterdam’s contemporary art scene, « Beyond Imagination », the first temporary exhibition at the new Stedelijk, is a tribute to the art that is made in Amsterdam and the Netherlands.

Raphael Hefti a suivi une formation en électronique avant d’étudier l’art, le design et la photographie. Au fait des techniques industrielles, il travaille sur les altérations et les possibles erreurs des procédés mécaniques, en les poussant à leur paroxysme afin que ces altérations initiales se transforment en esthétisme. Ce n’est pas la relation entre l’objet et son image qui l’intéresse mais les propriétés mêmes des matériaux.

Visual artist and writer Alexandre Singh is living in Rotterdam in residence for a year until the completion of The Humans. A production in progress: an ongoing installation, multiple encounters or “Causeries”, rehearsals and a play. On a daily basis, he posts on a dedicated tumblr page, visual material and other sources that serve as an inspiration in the development of his project.

Contingency space is the gradual transformation of a physical space through different elements that are related at different levels of perception, language and meaning. Multiple possibilities of relationship between different information levels are linked in a common area. Through different visual and conceptual approaches connected, Nicolás Lamas has generated a conceptual mapping with differt poetic connections and reconsiderations of the rol of representation systems as constructor of what we know as reality.

Carl Palm works toward an everyday reading of concepts and sculpture independent of text or biography in an underplayed tone so that they finally turn over into psychological settings that activate a state of elevated consciousness in which one understands the careful logic of the works: Titles, acted out concepts, the craftsmanship of handmade chairs and tables, printed matter, sound and light conditions – all balance each other and point at considerable openness, mute but deeply social, to be created always anew. In the interactive installation SHADOWS, Anna Frants creates a “coming-to-life” visual and acoustic environment, into which viewers are engaged as both active participants and observers. Breathless – an installation by Alexandra Dementieva consists of three light objects. The installation is a metaphor illuminating parallels between ideas of light and dark, physical and metaphysical, unconscious and conscious, life and death, finite and infinite. Glaz-Maton by Aernoudt Jacobs is a personal data sonification instrument.
