THE MAP OF EXACTITUDE

The Map of Exactitude 2011-ongoin, is an attempt at mapping the Elizabeth McAlpine studio.
A series of cameras, both pinhole and slit cameras have been constructed, the scale and form of the cameras is dictated by the architecture of the space on a 1:1 scale. The apertures of the camera dictated by the markings and traces left on/in the space by its history. A series of abstract black and white photographic prints have been made in the cameras, the light exposed directly on to the paper, which is often folded, and cut in order to fit the form of the camera.

LISA TAN — SUNSETS

Filed under: Art contemporain | Tags: , |

Sunsets documents an informal translation and transcription (Portuguese to English) of a 1977 interview with the Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector (1920-1977). Lispector’s figurative and highly imaginative sto- ries approach the limits of subjectivity in remarkable ways. In Sunsets, Tan layers the interview with a seductive and melancholic visual language to address values of productivity and passivity in relation to creation.

FELIX

Between 2009 and 2010 Leen Voet realized 774 drawings based on the oeuvre of the painter Felix De Boeck (1898-1995). The complete series, originally drawn with pencil on A4 paper, is reproduced in the book called Felix. It is investigated as to how much the original work can be “neutralized” through copying, and how much the copies are “neutralized” by the original work.

GROUNDED — WAXY PITH IN AUSTRIA

Filed under: Art contemporain | Tags: , |

In Grounded, Waxy Pith exhibits new works by four young artists. Although each artist has a highly individual approach, there is a distinct complementary resonance between these works and, significantly, a symbiotic relationship with the bb15 project space. The title relates to the nature of the various different works, exploring the alternate definitions of the term and thereby enriching the consequent dialogue. The Websites: Stian Ådlandsvik, Nick Defour, Sophie Giraux, Pol Matthé.
